Local Nature Recovery Strategies

peak district landscape

48 areas covering the entirety of England are required to produce a Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Each Strategy will agree priorities for recovering nature and suggest actions in locations where it would make a significant contribution to achieving those priorities.

The Peak District is covered by six of the areas (based on county boundaries), led by six different Responsible Authorities.

The Peak District National Park Authority acts as a Supporting Authority to input advice and provide local knowledge and ambitions to each Local Nature Recovery Strategy. We will be doing this primarily by using the Peak District Nature Recovery Plan.

Each Responsible Authority must undertake public consultations on their local nature recovery strategy before it is published, meaning anyone who can play a part in recovering nature and the wider environment in their local area could be involved in preparing the strategy. Please use the links above to see if there is an opportunity for you to have a say in your Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

Once published, Local Nature Recovery Strategies are intended to guide where the private, public and voluntary sectors focus their efforts for greater collective impact on nature recovery. Each Responsible Authority will review their Strategy every 3-10 years to assess what has been achieved and which areas still need progress.
